LEE Chung-Chung, was born in Anhui, China in 1942 and moved to Tainan, Taiwan in 1945. She graduated from the Art Department of Political Warfare Cadres School (now Fu Hsing Kang College, National Defense University) in 1965. Born into a family of traditional painters, she was immersed in traditional ink painting from an early age under the guidance of her father, Lee Jinyu. While rooted in tradition, Lee Chung-Chung 's artistic practice transcends conventional forms as she reinterprets ink painting through a contemporary lens—creating a poetic abstract universe through dynamic compositions of dots, lines, and planes, animated by vibrant colors. In her works, the mellow gradations of traditional ink painting interweave with modern abstract vocabularies. Through various techniques such as rubbing and diffusion, she creates rich layers and textures, enabling viewers to perceive, within the flow of dense ink and light colors, both the artist's profound understanding of nature and life, and her innovative interpretation of Eastern aesthetics.
Her works have been exhibited across the United States, Europe, China, Japan, and Korea since 1970. Her art is in the collections of the National Museum of History, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Tainan Art Museum, Asian Arts Center in Maryland (USA), Fukuoka Art Museum (Japan), Qingdao Art Museum (China), as well as numerous private collections worldwide. She has consistently participated in Art Basel Hong Kong from 2017 to 2026 and presented solo exhibitions at Taipei Dangdai in 2020 and 2022. In 2024, she held two major solo exhibitions: "Landscape Variations—LEE Chung-Chung's Ink Art Journey" at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and "The Dialogue between Water and Ink—The Painting World of LEE Chung-Chung" at the Fine Arts Museum of National Defense, comprehensively showcasing the depth and breadth of her artistic practice.
