At Art Taipei 2017, Asia Art Center presents its interpretation of a "New Eastern Spirit" through a selection of artists whose practices span different generations and geographies.
The presentation brings together key figures who contributed to the development of modern art from the 1950s onward, including Singaporean artist CHEONG Soo Pieng, Taiwan-based CHU Weibor, FONG Chung-Ray in the United States, and YANG Chihung of a later generation.
As contemporary ink has increasingly moved beyond the traditional language of brush and ink toward a more conceptual approach, the presentation also features works by GAO Xingjian, LI Chen, PAN Hsin-Hua, KOON Wai Bong, and HANG Chunhui.
Two of the most significant figures in modern Chinese art, ZAO Wou-Ki and Sanyu, are also included in the presentation, highlighting the distinct possibilities of abstraction and line within their respective practices.
