The curation of the exhibition Resonance in January 2024 symbolizes a milestone in the Asia Art Center’s long-term commitment to Contemporary Art development both domestically and internationally. We not only respond to diverse Contemporary Art trends but also sift through our collaborative artists to find those who can dialogue and connect intertextually, aiming to explore universal humanistic values through visual arts amidst different cultural systems and artistic careers.
This booklet and preface, compiled after the exhibition, hope to serve as a memento and a cornerstone—commemorating a rare interaction between Taiwanese and American artists, and symbolizing the phase of research achievement at Asia Art Center. The cornerstone is a hope that such foundational and transformative research will continue to deepen and manifest in our future exhibitions. Additionally, the booklet includes an insightful interview with the two artists, conducted by the renowned curator and art researcher Yu-Ling Chou. This interview, which adds significant depth to the booklet, features Chou’s probing questions that encourage the artists to explore their personal histories and map out their artistic journeys. This method reduces the subjective influence of the writer and allows the artists to express their thoughts directly. While the exhibition initially concentrated on the common themes in the artists’ works, it also underscores how art serves as a dialectical tool for reconnecting with the interplay between oneself and history. This approach transforms the art into a medium for communication that transcends language and cultural barriers, resulting in a rich and unexpected spectrum of resonance.
