Since Gao Xingjian’s first solo exhibition at Asia Art Center in 1998, to The Edge of Reality-Gao Xingjian Solo Exhibition in 2013, Asia Art Center has been following and showcasing the artist’s extraordinary talent in visual art. We are pleased to announce the opening of GAO XINGJIAN Retrospective exhibition at Museum of Ixelles, where paintings made by the first Chinese Nobel Laureate for Literature are currently on display until 31st May, 2015. Meanwhile, Gao also created six monumental, site-specific paintings for the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium.
Very few complete retrospectives are devoted to a living artist. Michel Draguet, head of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium and also curator of this exhibition, explained: “This exhibition is special because it is neither Eastern nor Western. There is therefore a nod to both the East and the West. Both sides are very traditional but they offer a picture of creation of today, a vision of today, timeless even.”
