Born in Shanghai in 1945, Liang studied at the China Academy of Art from 1986 to 1989 under the mentorship of Maryn Varbanov, specializing in soft sculpture. By the late 1980s, he had begun his artistic experiments with silkworms. For over three decades, Liang has dedicated himself to exploring the intersections of art and biology, installation and sculpture, new media, and performance. Centered on time and life, his ongoing Nature Series employs the life cycle of silkworms as a medium, characterized by its interaction with nature. His works embody meditation, philosophy, and poetic sensibility, revealing the inner beauty of ethereal silk traces.
Liang has held solo exhibitions at prestigious institutions worldwide, with his works featured in numerous international biennales and group exhibitions. His artistic trajectory includes: In 1989, Liang participated in the landmark China/Avant-Garde exhibition at the National Art Museum of China (Beijing). The year 1999 marked his appearances at three major biennales: the 48th Venice Biennale (Italy), the 6th Istanbul Biennial (Turkey), and the 5th Lyon Biennale (France). His works were subsequently shown at both the 3rd Shanghai Biennale (Shanghai Art Museum) and again at the Lyon Biennale in 2000.
